Sage & Sprout began with a simple thought during motherhood — not as a business idea, but as a question:
How do I help my child understand the values I want him to grow up with?
My son Sage loves books, and at one point I wanted to write a kindness story just so I could read it to him — something gentle and grounding that we could return to again and again. Because like many parents, I don’t just think about what I want to teach — I think about how to live it with him. How to model it. How to make it real.
That idea slowly evolved.
The book became a message.
The message became something he could wear.
A reminder — not just at bedtime — but everywhere he goes.
What started with kindness is only the first heart of the first drop. Sage & Sprout is about the values children grow inside — shaped by what they hear, what they see, and what surrounds them every day.
When I watch Sage play — at the playground, outdoors, exploring the world — I often think about how vulnerable and precious children are. The world can feel harsh and complicated. And while we cannot control everything they will face, we can choose what we place close to their hearts.
If there is one small thing I can do to help make my child — and other children — grow into kinder, braver, more grounded humans, it is this.
Children are often called “the future.”
But the future is shaped now
— in small daily moments, repeated words, and steady reminders.
This brand is encouragement.
This brand is confidence.
This brand is nurturing.
Because children are developing their inner voice — and the words around them matter.
I realised that many children’s clothes are cute and aesthetic — and there is nothing wrong with that — but often they carry no meaning at all. On the days I want comfort, reassurance, and something that feels significant, I reach for something with a message. Something intentional. That is what Sage & Sprout is for.
The name reflects the hope behind the brand.
Sage — wisdom, thoughtfulness, grounded truth.
Sprout — growth, becoming, new life unfolding.
Wisdom growing.
Sage himself was born pre-term, and our journey included time at Starship Children’s Hospital — a place no parent hopes to be, yet filled with some of the strongest and bravest children you will ever see. That experience shaped our decision to give back. A portion of every shirt supports Starship, as a small, ongoing act of gratitude and care.
